bought it from him in 1982 and the car was absolutely concours,having been painstakingly rebuilt over time using the correct parts many sourced from Lotus direct. A new chassis,body and all internals had been replaced,wiring loom etc etc. Big valve engine,with twin dellorto`s and of course 5 speed box.Stainless steel exhaust. Correct flat bonnet,no bulge,duo tone paintwork,black with gold bumpers. Black stove enamelled wheels,and Colin Chapman steering wheel with signature etched into the down spoke of the wheel. As can be seen it has Sprint 5 badge to one wing and World championship badge to the other. This car has rarely been used since my father died,and has probably only covered some 1000 miles over the last 10 years,mot`s to prove. It has always been maintained,serviced,mot`d by our own resident engineer,employed to fettle and look after a small stable of cars my father was fortunate to own,all kept in heated garages.Mot`s verifying the mileage. This car is not now concours but is in good order and could be used as is ,or indeed brought back to it`s former glory as it was some 40 years ago.The paintwork has some chips and `spider web`? in places,front screen rubber needs replacing, but nothing major, some fettling and tlc. the time I`ve had it I believe I have sorted all the minor mechanical issues:Recently fitted new pads and disks for the front wheels, and a new stub axle for the rear drivers side.New front brake calipers, refurbished rear calipers and pads. Also a new brake servo (adopt Lotus position to fit).New brake hoses.The bodywork is in very good condition.I have stripped out the interior to replace a broken interior heater fan; the one on the drivers side...a right pain to get at. This job is done and I have just put the interior back in. The interior is generally in good condition but a bit tired (especially on A pillar trim) and the rear section of headling has been removed (ie behind the roll bar). I have refurb`d an Elite headlining and it isn`t a hugely difficult job, and the headlining can be obtained from Woolies nr Market Deeping for a few quid. All you have to do is use an adhesive to stick it on (also available from Woolies).Car runs really well and I have a comprehensive set of docs for the car history.Went for a drive, it goes very well, engine is smooth.The door window frames need adjusting, this can be done by taking off the door car (couple of screws) and adjusting the 5 bolts that attach the window frame to the door beam. Or you can fit spacers to the bolts that hold the door to the car. To reflect this I will listen to offers.The drivers winfow goes up and down but is slowish at one point where the frame needs adjusting, same on passsenger side. looking for a Elan Plus 2 this time last year, and was told of a elan in this guys garage went along and brought the elan. The Eclat was up in the air having the rear suspension overhauled. I said if you ever sell it let me know. He did and now its mine!It was a little bit of a inpluse buy but doing a little digging and reading on the net, being a late Riviera said to be the one to have, (next lotus classic to jump up in value may be?) I have every intention of getting it on the road but time is not in abundance and the plus 2 is bleeding me dry.I have a folder full of receipts in 98 £1182 spent on parts and service at Paul Matty including water pump and cam belt rear drive shafts with the milage at 53266 The car is now showing less than 57 000. Then last year receipts for rear Spax shocks and bushes ect. The car starts drives as it should, no clutch issues There are however a couple of jobs needed for the mot. Electrics rear ligths not working pop up lights was working now stuck rev counternot working but all other elec ok even the elecic windows work fine Prob just earth fault Very minor If the car does not sell I will have these fault sorted, and mot the car and run it for the summer but due to time and wanting to finish my plus 2 i have decided to try and sell her. With a little time this will make a great drivable classic that will only increase in value.
